Welcome to the LGFC web site

Lostock Gralam F.C is not only one of the oldest football teams in Cheshire but also in England. Founded in 1892, The Grey Lambs have always been at the forefront of promoting amateur football in the county and helping to establish the Mid-Cheshire League in 1948, which has produced some outstanding sides and players.

Playing their home games at The Park Stadium on Manchester Road, Lostock, behind the Slow & Easy Hotel a ground that has seen football played on it for over 100 years, The Grey Lambs are looking to provide new facilities to develop football with the youngsters within the area and so maintain the tradition which for so long has been associated with Lostock Gralam F.C.

With the introduction of a reserve team in July 2006 in to the Crewe & District League and with applications for funding underway, The Grey Lambs are looking to return to the top of the amateur league, which has eluded them for the past couple of years.

press release;

Grey Lambs seal a cool £1000 from Brooktherm Refrigeration

Lostock Gralam are celebrating a bumper new sponsorship agreement with Wirral based Brooktherm Refrigeration to add important revenue to their current development programme.

The deal is all the sweeter given that the club were able to take advantage of a government scheme called Sportsmatch, enabling the total available to the club £2000.

The money has already been put to good use, with the purchase of a new away kit and tracksuits for the clubs first team. The remainder of the funding will be spent on equipment and training for coaches to launch the clubs junior academy next season.

Club Secretary James Birdsey said “This is a significant amount of money for the club to fulfil our commitment to delivering grass roots activities alongside the clubs exciting capital programme to redevelop the ground. The tender documents for the ground have now been completed, and this funding will ensure we have a high quality junior system in place to utilise the new facilities upon completion for the 2010/11 season. We’re delighted that Brooktherm want to be a part of this programme, and look forward to a productive partnership”.

The clubs senior sides are both flying high this season, with the 1st team up to 4th in Cheshire Division 2 and on an unbeaten run stretching back to the 3rd of November. The reserve side have done even better, having led the Crewe and District league since September.

“The quality of coaching at the club is already very high, and we’re able to draw on the experience of Neil Bithell, who works with Manchester United’s Academy sides, and Ross Speight, who is a UEFA B coach and Director of Coerver Coaching NW. They have taken the club onto the next level and will do an excellent job of overseeing the implementation of the junior sides”

May I also take this opportunity to thank you all; committee members, managers and players alike for your support throughout the last year, a year that stands out in our long history for being the most eventful one so far for the club.

This has been a historic year with the finalisation of the funding for our ground development, thus' allowing us to take this club forward, it has secured its future and we can safely say that the Grey Lambs will be playing football on our historic ground for many more seasons to come.

I would also like to commend you all and give my thanks for the great progress that you have all been responsible for, all that has taken place both on and off the playing field.

I will rank and must compare the cup game that I witnessed against Witton Albion as one of the best performances by a Lostock Gralam side that I have ever had the privilege to watch during my long association with this club.

But the transformation of our club over this last year has only been achieved through the dedicated responsibility to this club that you have all once again given to it, so I hope you will join with me in looking forward to a another new and exciting year ahead of us all here at LOSTOCK GRALAM F C .

Bithell said –

“I’m glad to be back as this is a club that’s heading in the right direction with the work going on behind the scenes to improve the facilities. The team is stronger than when I left and there’s some really good young players coming with me, so we’re looking forward to getting started.”

   Ground Development

Lostock had double reason to celebrate at the weekend (11/10/08) as they received news that they had been successful in procuring £241,400 from the Football Foundation to complete their long awaited Ground Development Project. The funding will go together with the £155,000 already allocated from Vale Royal Borough Council to completely level the site, including demolishing the current changing facilities, to pave the way for a new build changing room and clubhouse, a full drainage network on a revamped senior pitch with an additional mini soccer pitch added for junior football.

Simon Gerrard, Development Manager for the Cheshire FA said - "We are pleased to have supported the club in this application to the Football Foundation, and are delighted that the club have been successful. This project will see the upgrade of a traditional community club into a hub for grass roots development, and we look forward to seeing the clubs long term development plan come to fruition".

Derek Washburn, Club Chairman, said "I've been involved in this club for over 40 years now, and can't put into words how much this means to me and to the people of Lostock. Once this is complete, we will have facilities to match any amatuer club in Cheshire and fully intend to use this opportunity to develop young, local players to put the club at the top of the amatuer tree once again."

The club will meet with project managers from Groundwork on the 22nd of October to sign off tenders documents, with a view to commencing work early in 2009.

It won't be long before Lostock Gralam F.C will be back where they belong contesting for the trophies that amateur football has to offer.
